What another fabulous weekend Madera has had. First on Friday we had the Tile Wall Project.  It was so wonderful seeing so many artists.  I cannot wait to see how beautiful all those tiles are going to look.  A super huge thank you to Kristin Tignac for organizing and putting this all together.  And another thank you to all her parent volunteers.  Your time was appreciated.

As many of you know Madera 4th, 5th and 6th graders competed in the city wide event known as Jr. Olympics on Saturday the 2nd at Royal High School.  Madera was one of 21 schools that competed in various athletic events.  All I can say about the day is simply WOW!  Our athletes went out there and gave it their all.  I was in awe of how well they all did.  Unfortunately we may not have placed in many events, our school spirit was big and strong.  I would like to acknowledge those athletes that did place.  Congratulations to the following:
Jake Piazza – 2nd Place Track
Karl Kniseley – 3rd Place Track
Kyra Hansen – 1st Place Running Long Jump
Daniel Mathews – 5th Place Running Long Jump
Jordan Polynice – 3rd Place Hoops
Paulina Taras – 5th Place Hoops

And to all the athletes on our Volleyball team that placed 5th.  Congratulations to them all.  I would also like to thank Kyra Grzywacs who headed up Madera’s Jr. Olympics.  Thank you Kyra for all your hard work.  A huge thank you to all our parents that coached – Casey Drummond, Mike Wolf, Steve Carnes, Elliot Hansen, April Jacobsen, Dana Piazza and Mark Donalson.  Your dedication to our students helped make the difference.  Finally I would like to thank our parent volunteers – Susan Sinclair, Ray Hernandez, Ashley Watkins, Michelle Williams, Lynda Lee and Kaydi Tovar.  PTA is ever so grateful to you for your time.

Now that these main events are over, don’t think your PTA is done just yet.  We still have a few more fun things planned that I would like to share with you.

First, Friday, April 15th, the PTA will be hosting its annual Math/Science Fun Night.  For those that are interested in helping, please contact Pamela Mikita at mmikita@sbcglobal.net.

Next we have our monthly board meeting scheduled for Tuesday the 12th at 8:15am.  We will be forming a committee to discuss this year’s gift to school.

Our spring book fair to promote summer reading will be sometime after STAR testing.  STAR testing will begin right after spring break on May 3rd.

Right now our student council is asking students to write letters to the soldiers fighting overseas.  Look in the Madera Messenger for more details.

The yearbook is complete and on the way to the printer.  Thank you room parents, Allison Graybill and most importantly, Julie Orme, for all your hard work in getting this put together.

Staff Appreciation Week is scheduled for May 16th through the 20th.  A room parent meeting to discuss all the details for that week is scheduled for Tuesday the 12th at 9:15am.

Finally we still have one more assembly that our students will experience and then believe it or not, we will be at the end of another fun filled school year.

If you have any questions or comments regarding what is happening at our school, please feel free to contact me at anytime.

So enjoy your evening and I will see you around Madera.
