Today was our monthly PTA Board meeting.  Here is a recap of what was discussed.

As of today, the following members have been officially ratified to the board:  Megan Jeffery – Reflection’s Chair; Diana Garnand – Lead Art Docent; Kelly Gomez – Silent Auction Classroom Art Projects Lead; Zach Bloom – Creepy Classroom Lead; Ryan Gessell – Reading Under the Stars Lead and every room parent and art docent that are listed on the roster that is posted in P3.  Congratulations and welcome to the board.

Some very exciting news was shared today…Madera PTA has yet again achieved over 100% PTA membership for a second time in a row.  Way to go Team Madera!!!!  We have a total 474 members with only 469 students.  Outstanding!!!  I was also informed that most of the classes have reached 100%, which means they will get to come and celebrate at our ‘Super Bowl’ style party in January.  If your class is not one of them, no worries because there is still time.  The competition is not over until December…so get those memberships in.  A special thanks to our membership coaches, Jen Rosenstein and Misty Dawson.  They did a tremendous job and deserve our sincerest thanks.

As I mentioned last week we had our first of many fabulous assemblies with Razzle Bam Boom.  Another assembly is coming our way soon, but we have just confirmed that this year the PTA will be able to host the Music Van in January.  This is a wonderful hands-on assembly.  It lasts up to three days.  The first day grades k-6 get a lesson on instruments used in an orchestra.  They will hear how each instrument sounds and see what they look like.  Then for the next two days grades 3-6 have the opportunity to experience hands-on fun with the instruments.  I wish we could allow all grades to partake in this portion of the assembly but unfortunately the Thousand Oaks Civic Center will not allow the younger grades to do this.  That is why we will alternate having the Music Van so that by the time the k-2 reach 3rd grade they will get the opportunity to participate in one way or another.

I have been asked by Madera’s lunch lady, Ms. Teri, if anyone is available at 11:10 on Friday the 15th to help with the salad bar lunch that will be served at Madera.  I already have two volunteers, thank you Shay and Stephanie, we just need one more.  If you are available, please let me know.

Spirit Wear sales are complete for the time being.  For those that ordered spirit wear but have yet to receive it our final shipment will be delivered with-in the next two weeks.  I have copies of all orders and will distribute them to the appropriate students.

Madera is going GREEN.  Look in tomorrow’s Madera Messenger for all the details.  If you want to be a part of this, please contact Maureen Yamada for more info at neeruam13@aol.com.

Red Ribbon Week is scheduled for the week of October 25th.  This year’s theme is ‘Join Team Madera by Saying No to Drugs’.  More details will follow next week.

Finally, the main event…Harvest Festival & Silent Auction time.  It’s almost here and we still can use your help.  Room parents have sent home notices asking for donations towards a particular theme. If you don’t have time to purchase something for your classroom basket, you can always give a few dollars so that your room parent can purchase something.  Remember if you donate, whether it’s an item or cash, it is tax deductable and we will give you a receipt if you like.  Also you have been asked to donate any baked goods that are individually wrapped or a whole cake for the cake walk game.  If you plan on doing this, please let your room parent know so that we can keep a tally of what we have.  Every bit is appreciated.  No donation too big or too small, what counts is what you can give.  So thank you for giving back to our school and our kids.  As for the actual event we could use help with set-up.   If you are available to help on Thursday the 21st after 1pm or Friday the 22nd anytime (we’ll be starting at 7am) we would greatly appreciate it.  We could also use a few adults to help sell pizza that night.  There are hourly shifts starting at 4:30pm. If you are interested, please contact Jen Rosenstein at jenrosenstein@sbcglobal.net.   And now my one last request for tonight…come out on the 22nd and have yourself a ball.  In one way or another you all worked hard for this day, and we want you to enjoy yourselves and your families too!

So that is what is going on so far.  My thanks to everyone for all their support and dedication to our kids, school and community.  As corny as it sounds, it takes a team to build a dream, and I believe we here at Madera are making a lot of dreams come true because we are a team and we work well as a team and I am so proud to not only have you on our team but to be a part of it as well.

With that said…if you have any questions or thoughts, please let me know.

Enjoy the rest of this beautiful week and remember, Harvest Festival 2010 on Friday, October 22nd at 4:30pm.

Many thanks always,

By now many of you may have already heard about the fabulous assembly the kids got to see today at school.  If you haven’t then ask them about it the two silly men who came to Madera and sang songs.  The assembly was performed by Razzle Bam Boom and they did their version of 200 years of music in America.  It was a 45 minute assembly that had the kids laughing and singing the whole time.  Even the teachers got involved.  So thank you Ashley Watkins for finding such a wonderful assembly.

Next, an announcement was made by Mrs. Wolf stating that due to the unpredictability of Mother Nature,  Walk/Bike to School Day has been pushed from Wednesday the 6th to Thursday the 7th.  Parents with cameras will be snapping photos for the yearbook and kids that walk or bike to school on Thursday can stop by the patio and enter to win a $5 gift card to Border’s Books.

Well it’s almost here.  The most amazing, spectacular, unforgettable event of the school year…our Harvest Festival/Silent Auction.  It is scheduled for Friday, October 22nd at 4:30 until 8:30pm.  It is because of this event our kids get to experience assemblies like they did today.  This is one event you do not want to miss out on.  Flyers will be going home tomorrow with all the details, as well as a list of sponsors and donors so far.  If you wish to be a part of this, please contact me.  There is still time to sign-up to volunteer at a game booth, help get donations, become a sponsor, help with set-up or help in other ways too.  At this time, we still need parents to loan us EZ-Ups, ice-chests and folding tables.  We are also asking if anyone has creepy or scary Halloween decorations that they are willing to loan us for the night to be used in our Creepy Classroom.  If you can loan us any of these items, please let me know.  And don’t forget, you should have received a letter from your child’s classroom room parent asking for donations towards your class theme basket.  Every bit helps so please send in those items.

Right after our Harvest Festival is Red Ribbon Week.  Details regarding this week long event will be sent home with the Madera Messenger within the next few weeks.

Spirit Wear sales for the fall will end this Friday, the 8th.  All orders are due to the office by then.  All orders that have yet to be filled due to limited sizes will be ordered next week and delivered to your student’s classrooms within 2 weeks or so.

This Friday at 8:00am there is an AR assembly for grades 1 and 2.  Come out and watch as our young readers earn charms for how many reading tests they have passed this month.  Remember that the computer lab is opened Tuesdays before school and Thursdays afterschool for students wishing to take AR tests.

Finally, our next board meeting is scheduled for Tuesday, October 12th at 8:15am in P3.  All are welcome.

As always, I thank you for your support of the PTA, our kids and school.  If you have any questions or thoughts, please feel free to contact me.

I hope you enjoy the rest of your week with all this crazy weather and I look forward to seeing you all on the 22nd at the Harvest Festival.
